Terms & acceptable use

Last updated: 2026-05-17

What yay is

yay is a small, non-commercial social platform run as a personal project. You sign in with an email address, talk to people you have explicitly added to your circles, and read posts authored by people who have added you back. There is no algorithmic feed, no advertising, and no third-party data sale.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use yay to:

  • Post or share child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Any such content will be removed and reported to the relevant authorities; the account will be permanently terminated.
  • Threaten, stalk, harass, or incite violence against other people.
  • Post content that is unlawful in your jurisdiction (or in Germany, where the service is hosted), including incitement, defamation, or unauthorised distribution of private personal information.
  • Send unsolicited bulk messages or operate automated spam accounts.
  • Attempt to bypass technical limits, scrape other users' data, or otherwise abuse the service infrastructure.

Direct messages

Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted using the MLS protocol (RFC 9420). The operator cannot read message contents on the server. Recipients can still report messages they have received; reports include only the report text and references the reporter chooses to provide.

Reporting content

Use the report button (kebab menu) on any post to flag it for review. For broader concerns — including takedown requests, copyright claims, or legal-process correspondence — email abuse@madmin.app. Reports are reviewed by a small operator team; we aim to acknowledge within seven days.

Account suspension

Violations of these terms may result in immediate suspension or permanent termination of the account, at the operator's discretion. Account suspension prevents sign-in; the content authored by the suspended account is retained for audit purposes unless separately removed.

No warranty

yay is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. The operator reserves the right to suspend the service, change these terms, or delete accounts and content with reasonable notice.
